We look at a lot of local service business websites before a rebuild. The same handful of issues show up again and again — and every one of them is quietly costing calls. Here's what to check on yours.
Most local searches happen on a phone, on the go. If your number is just an image or plain text instead of a proper tel: link, visitors have to copy and paste it manually — and most won't bother.
Heavy drag-and-drop builders and stacks of plugins add load time that Google penalises and impatient visitors won't wait for. A hand-built, lightweight site consistently loads faster.
Visitors decide whether to stay within seconds. If the first screen they see doesn't make it obvious how to contact you and what you do, you've likely already lost them.
If your site doesn't clearly list the suburbs or region you cover, visitors — and Google — can't confirm you actually service their area, and they'll move on to a competitor who spells it out.
Old desktop-first templates that require pinching and zooming on a phone are still surprisingly common. If your menu, buttons or text don't work cleanly on a small screen, you're actively pushing mobile visitors away.
None of these are hard to fix individually, but they add up. A site that gets all five right converts noticeably more visitors into calls — which is the whole point of having one.
